Founding Punch Brothers member and Leftover Salmon alum Noam Pikelny has emerged as the preeminent banjoist among a new generation of acoustic musicians. His playing is as dazzling for its melodicism as it is for his virtuosity, and his many collaborators include Wilco, Fiona Apple, and Norah Jones. His latest solo effort, Beat the Devil and Carry a Rail, was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Noam’s open ended gatherings of like minded players have become a mainstay of NYC’s burgeoning acoustic scene, and he’s bringing the party north for us to kick things off in the Hunter Center on Saturday night.
