Dr. Ralph Stanley is one of today’s most influential musical voices, in any genre. He started in 1946 as half of the legendary Stanley Brothers duo, producing some of the most mournful, emotionally resonate mountain songs ever recorded. Many of country and bluegrass music’s biggest stars have emerged from Stanley’s bands throughout the years, including Ricky Skaggs, Larry Sparks, and the late Keith Whitley. In 2002, Stanley received his first Grammy Award, for his haunting rendition of “Oh Death.” He is bluegrass’ elder statesman, a true icon of this music, and an American treasure. We’re honored to have him.
