This rowdy and energetic string band has toured the country since 1999 on a mission to bring new sound to the Americana scene. While they mostly stick to strings, one of the unique features of the Hackensaw Boys is their custom “charismo” percussion instrument, which they describe as a “homemade tin can contraption” made of cans and license plates (among other objects) that is played with wire-brush sticks. This device adds a unique element to the band’s rough-and-tumble country punk rock style. They were a part of the very first FreshGrass festival back in 2011, and they return to lead this year’s late-night barn dance.
