Darol Anger’s thirty-year career as a violinist has been filled with path-breaking episodes: the Turtle Island String Quartet brought its wild fusion of bluegrass, Indian classical music, funk, and jazz into classical concert halls, while Psychograss, with Mike Marshall and Tony Trischka, expanded the genre from within. Darol has been a deep presence at FreshGrass since its beginnings, turning each weekend into a whirlwind of collaborations, workshops, and impromptu jams – and his acclaimed trio, Mr. Sun, was even formed on our grounds a few years back. This year he returns with singer-songwriter Emy Phelps to share their 4-year project Music of Our People, an album featuring music from the sixties, the seeds for today’s Americana and Roots music.
